help with a logo please!

my dad has asked me to make a logo for his business. its a computer trianing institute called 'azfam academy' (azfam derived from the combination of our family's names)

$5 to each of the top 2 logos, as determined by a poll that'll be put up around midday EST.

note this is a secondary logo... the primary one is from the franchise, but my dad is conducting some other courses that aren't from the franchise and wants a 'secondary logo' for that purpose... "
 
I can only tell you .. please don't use the one you've just designed 😛

Serif fonts look horrible in all caps, and academy is too spaced out

Come up with some paypal and I'm sure you'll get more submissions than you need 🙂

i may just end up offering this as a paypal thing. but to be honest i really have nothing better to do right now and would rather try exploring my (very very minute, as you can tell quite easily) artistic side!!

No! If this is for a business, please please hire someone to make this unless you really are good at it. Neither of those are showing me that you are. 🙁😛

Seriously though, you want people to take your business seriously and the logo is probably their first introduction to your business. Don't make it half assed, get someone who can do a good job to make one.
 
No amount of filters or special effects will make you good at this. There are a billion people out there that are actualy good in this area that will do this for you for pennies.

edit: not the pennies part, but the billion people that are good at this thing is true.

If you can offer like $30 or $40 I think you'd get plenty of people trying things out for you, but yeah, $5 is a tad on the low side, that works out to about $3 after paypal fees 😛

Yeah, that pennies part is a bit relative. I think of a charging under a hundred dollars for a corporate logo as being pennies.

To further elaborate:

For what Zimu is doing and what I am imagining he needs it for, it will be very inexpensive to get something done. And the 'people who are actually good in this area' means people who actually have talent and training in this area.

The business that I am part owner of does a lot of web developement and branding, so I see logos getting slung around on just about a daily basis, also, when we first started up we went through the pains of branding a new small business. So I'm not just speculating.

What we did initially was recruit from the academy of art and the local JC. Not that we needed to, we are constantly bombarded by designers who are dying for work. It is definately a buyers market.

The 'pennies' theory definately breaks down when you are talking about buying high end products from design firms but I have a sneaking feeling that Zimu is not looking for that.

All that being said, I would try and avoid actually offering pennies to people as a challenge to do my homework for me.
 
The name "Azfam academy" does not inspire confidence in me, it sounds like it would be a clown academy, or maybe a charitable organisation feeding starving people in Africa. I think you should develop a more appropriate business name, before you work on a visual identity. Also, I think that being able to create compelling corporate identities (including corporate logoes) is a skill, which people spend years developing, and your efforts look kind of amateurish to me, maybe you should consult a graphic designer.
