Hello anandtech.
I am trying to decide what AGP card to buy. I was thinking of this one
I found a review for it that said that the ram is actually rated for 500mhz even though it is clocked at 350mhz. I figure that that plus the 256bit mem and 256MB ram and the 12 pipelines and 6 shaders would make it worth the price, or should I just save a few bucks and get the 6800? or even just a 6600gt? is it worth the extra 70$? is there another card that is in the sub 250$ price range that would be better than this one or a better value? I really want to play HL2 and Farcry and COD2 when it comes out. its really hard to find stuff on the x800 vanilla so your input would be greatly appreciated.
:)

not worth that much for the card. try searching some more on newegg since ive seen the same card for $189. you can pay a little more and get a X800XL for $260 otherwise.

6800 $196 - you can unlock the pipelines or vertex engines for it.

I think 6800 is not a bad card compared to x800. They both have 12 pipelines and memory is similarly clocked.

Review

As you can see 6800 is faster in doom 3 (thus FEAR, and Chronicles of riddick). HL2, x800 is faster. Far Cry, I'd give a notch to 6800. Call of Duty 2 is an OpenGL game I believe, so 6800 should be faster there too.

seems no one is too enthusiastic about the x800.
that review helped alot and I noticed said nothing about the saffphire x800 having 500mhz ram, but I trust that review more than something from pimprig.com :p
I have decided on a 6800, newegg had one for 168$ and they werent refurbs but they sold out, I think ill wait to see if those come back in stock, if not they seem to have plenty for below $200
thank you

i have never seen anyone with an x800 regular. get the x800xl/6800gt for performance, or the 6800nu for price/performance and unlock the pipelines and vertex shaders.

x800 regular is one of the best price/performance hi-ish end cards out there, and will eat a 6800 for breakfast. They o/c pretty well too so you basically end up with similar performance to an X800Pro. 6800 isn't worth it - most of the time it's no quicker then a 6600GT, might as well save the money and get one of them.
