help with A/C on a GMC Savanna 2006

I let my battery run dead on my GMC Savanna Van.

When I got it running again, the A/C vents wouldn't change modes. It was just blowing continuously at my feet no matter what mode I selected.

Researching this on the Internet, I found that it was usually the actuator motor that would go bad.

I just replaced the actuator, and the modes still won't change.

I then read that I needed to allow the HVAC system to calibrate and it might not do so if there were DTCs (trouble codes). So I went to a local auto store and had them reset my codes (it wasn't throwing any codes to begin with actually).

My actuator still won't move.

When I first installed the new actuator, I saw it move a few times when I was trying to change the modes, but now it won't move at all.

When I removed the old actuator, I noticed that the rotating arm was in a different position. I didn't want to force the new Actuator to move to a different position, so I just installed it in the default position.

This is what the actuator looks like: http://www.acpartshouse.com/Content/parts/original/121370_o.jpg. If you look closely you will see three hash marks above the upper hole (this is where it rotates). When I removed the actuator, it was oriented to the left of the far left hash. The new one started dead center.

I'm now thinking there was never anything wrong with the Actuator at all, and it was just the loss of battery that somehow caused the system to lose calibration?

I need ideas and suggestions. 🙂

well, I had already tried disconnecting the battery for some minutes and even removing the HVAC and HVAC1 fuses for some minutes and that didn't work

I decided to follow the procedure in your link:

1. Disconnected battery (I left the battery disconnected all night)
2. Set ignition key to battery power on (do not start vehicle). Closed door and left it on for about 5 minutes.
3. Started the engine and let it idle for 5 more minutes. Closed door.
4. Drove around town for a bit and let the van get up to 55 MPH.
5. Finally tried to change the A/C vent mode.

It is still stuck blowing at the floor only.

Help?

Put the old actuator back in exactly the way it was and try the reset?

Wait and it will probably start working eventually?

Go to the dealer?

I had the old actuator in for about 6 weeks and it never worked (without specifically tying a recalibration procedure) to try and change modes.

Now I'm doubting whether I replaced the right actuator. Apparently there can be more than one. I replaced one under the passenger side dashboard, but maybe it is a different one that controls the mode...

Edit: OK now I'm sure I replaced the wrong actuator. I tested and that actuator does move ... when I change the temperature controls!

How can I find the mode actuator on my GMC 2006 Savana? 😛
