my friend asked me for help with a computer for his grand father.
I'm guessing under $500.

need a motherboard, processor, 1GB of ram, 80GiG hdd or so, dvd-rw, Network (onboard?), video card with tv IN, he wants to watch tv on the computer. sound card? or onboard?

any good pre built systems?

thanks.

Only way to go this route is with AIW, which are pretty steep. If he won't be doing much gaming, (assumed) then getting a cheap mobo with integrated video, and buying a TV tuner seperate might be more economical, especially now that SiS Socket A mobos can be had for about $40 now, and most include integrated video. Unfortunately a good TV tuner with remote still runs about $70, which is a pretty big cut into a budget this small. Of course it can still be done though.

Edit: Here is a sample build I did that will be plenty fast for everyday computing needs, and has a decent Hauppage TV tuner with remote. link
