Hi there,

This morning I purchased a 256MB SoDimm for my G3 Lombard PowerBook, and I've run into a problem with it. It recognizes the memory, and the computer boots up fine, but it only reads 128MB of the 256MB stick :(

What is the issue, and should I look for a different memory stick?

If that is the case, i think that the G3 needs two of the same amounts of memory, so that it can be synchronized

there is only a 256 MB SoDimm in there, and it only reads 128 MB.

hmmm... well when this notebook was made it only topped out at 384 MB, but there are rumours that because newer denser memory chips came out, it tops out at 512.

So far I have the 256 MB SoDimm in there and a 64 MB SoDimm in there, so it should read 256 + 64 = 320 MB, but it only shows me that the system has 192 MB of memory.

could it be that the memory stick is wrong somehow? could it be that this system only takes single sided memory, and not dual sided memory?

Every G3 PB I have come accross came standard with either 64 or 128mb module (max 384 ram).

There are people who have had luck installing (2) 256mb modules (1 low profile 1.25" module in
lower slot, 1 High Profile 2" module in the customer slot), but it is iffy at best.

It does not matter if it is double or single-sided. Only that the module is PC100.

If I remember correctly, the PC133 is CL3 and the PC100 is CL2.

On a Wintel system it is backwards compatible 80% of the time.
On a Mac it is almost 0% in my experiences.

I would have to say that is the problem.
