HELP with 8800 gtx

Help please!!!!!!!

Im putting together my new system including the Stirker Extreme, e6600 and an asus 8800gtx.

I loaded the Striker drivers, loaded windows everything appeared to go ok but upon initial boot when screen backround is black...I can see a white 8 dot config of pixels evenly spaced across the screen and.....I cant load the driver for the 8800.

It goes to install the driver and the system locks up and eventually reboots. Ive tried both Asus and Nvidia driver with same result...up to this point everything was going ok except for my mouse needing to be removed from the usb port ..on occasion to get it to respond.

Also not sure why but when I scroll down on a web site its choppy and slow. I talked to Asus and they think its the card....I guess Ill ship card back.....any ideas?????

I also installed the latest Bios from Asus.

Thx Gejodi

It sounds to me as if your psu can't handle the card. They require quite a bit of power. And trying to use a video card without having it's driver installed will make scrolling choppy and slow, even on an 8800GTX. You're using software video acceleration, not hardware, when the driver isn't installed.

Thanks for the reply...the power supply is the thermaltake 131ru...its supposed to be certified and is 850 watts...so unless its defective ..i dont think its that....and thats what I thought about the choppiness...wanted to load driver before doing any troubleshooting on that.

I tried reseating the card as well...I just dont understand why the install just stops and the screen goes black cept for a blinking white cursor at top left of screen and ...then system reboots ??

Oyeve:

I am set to RMA it but want to be as sure as I can to avoid restocking fee!!!!!

Any one else out there that can add input or have seen this???

Do you have any other video cards or power supplies that you can switch out to discover the culprit perhaps?

Seeker:

all four independent rails are showing 12v I even swapped two and still the same

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

instead of swapping out parts in your system...try your video card in someone else's.

or have a computer place check it out..if you know the people ..they do it for free 🙂

An Update: I received a new card Asus 8800gtx and installed and no pixels problem and driver installed ok. I then proceded to install the samsung 215tw driver and sound card driver and all went smoothly......I installed keyboard G15 driver and am attempting to install Razer driver from website and have gotton some random reboots and a quick BSOD which I wasnt able to read. Its happened about 3 times now all when attempting to attach online. I am presently loading windows updates and I thought Id update you guys and see if you all have any ideas??!

In device manager ...everything looks ok for the installed hardware

My rebuild Saga!!!
