I got my new 45GB 74 GXP, and I hooked it up to my on board Promise ATA-100 controller on Asus A7V. I have two drives already on my primary IDE channel. I have the new drive set to primary, since it's on its own channel, the ATA-100 channel. I have the Promise drivers installed too. I want keep my current main drive the main one so I can transfer all of my stuff over to the new one from within Windows, but for some reason Windows isn't recognizing my new drive. Well, in device manager, it lists it, but in Explorer, it doesn't.

Hey Skot,

I have the same motherboard and the same hard drive. I have the hard drive on the Promise controller, but no secondary hard drives. Are you sure that all of your BIOS settings are correct? Specifically, did you enable the BIOS of the Promise controller? I'm not sure if that is the answer - but its an idea.

Stupid question, but did you format it? My co-workers hubby had a guy put together a system for him and he was complaining that the D: drive (second partition) would not show in explorer?

The guy who set it up forgot to format BOTH after creating the partition. Once formatted it magically appeared.

Just a thought.

There is an issue with disappering of the secondary hard drive if you're using BIOS version 1003 on your Asus A7V. Very first thing I would do is to get to 1005 BIOS and take a look if the problem still exists. I hope this helps,
