Ok, my 3com modem just died.
I reinstalled w98, and the driver doens't install any more as modem. I had to force the installation.
The modme is an internal PCI, 56K, modle 5610.

The chip says: 1.016.0777-22
TL16CFM700PGE
890C 97AE53W

Windows is 98SE english, but the same problem in W2k pro Italian
HELP!!!!

what were the symptoms when it died?
could it just be irq/commport conflicts?
check to see whether the motherboard's serial ports don't have the same settings as the modem

Disbled both mobo serial ports, no IRQ conflicts.
I install the right driver, and it says that has not been designe for that hardware. I install anyway, but does not work.

Windows is detecting a PCI controller, and it is the same in all the PCI slots
Is the modem dead?

usually when a component is dead, the computer will not POST, no video, no beeps

in your case, Windows is still detecting a device, but doesn't have the driver preinstalled

u probably don't have the right driver: check windrivers.com if the USR site doesn't have it
