my friend just installed server on one of his machines, there is a prob. with internet sharing, any ideas??

The network is accessible from the other machines but not the internet.

Please give me any ideas you might have on what can possibly be the prob.

Thanks

Is it enabled? You gave absolutely no information. You'll need to state his NIC settings, is he using a modem, cable, DHCP from his cable provider? Does he have an IP on the internet NIC? Does he get internet on the server?

Yes it is enabled and he has an IP on the internet NIC, there is internet on the server.

He is using a DSL line..

Did you set up NAT? You need to enable NAT, and set up the internal/external nodes to translate the IP's of your machines connected to the interneal network through to the internet. Set the NIC connected to your computers as the private node, and the one connected to the DSL line as the public node. Give it a pool of IP's to assign, and make sure the DHCP server automatically assigns the correct DNS address given by your ISP.

Hi,

Maybe some help:

If you are running a DNS server then NAT will NOT work, i tried it myself and looked up various documents on Ms site. You need to setup Routing and Remote access. I'm typing this from behind a w2k advanced server myself. The server has a dialup modem and RRAS installed.
If you don't run a DNS server then NAT should work. It's very easy if you have a dialup account just go to the properties of the dialup account and there is a tab page with sharing.

Whizzy

Say you have a DNS server hooked up to the Internet through DSL or Cable. How would you share the Internet Connection in that instance?
