:'( Started playing Witcher and during combat scenes, the game crashes to desktop. I have an Asus rep of gamers laptop, Win 7 64 bit system. so the specs to play the game are there. I can restart the game where I left off from desktop icon, but this is annoying.Any help/fixes would be greatly appreciated.

1) Make sure your video drivers are updated
2) Make sure Windows is updated
3) If you own the game on Steam, run a "Verify Integrity of Game Cache"

If you don't use Steam, then I don't know... maybe you can try re-installing. How often does it crash? Does it happen literally everytime you go into combat?

I would say mess with the settings. Turn certain things down until it stops crashing.

It is a laptop, after all.

might be a glitchy audio file that plays during combat. Id recommend a reinstall after a clean uninstall. OR
I've had crashes earlier in certain games at "certain" points and have always managed to get rid of it by turning "hardware acceleration" to low in the Dxdiag box. Maybe it will work for you as well.

Most likely it could also be a RAM issue (it could happen). also try to run other high demanding applications on your video card and see if any changes ?!

My Witcher 1 enhanced didn't crash to desktop whenever I entered combat but it did occasionally more often than i liked, crashed at random moments to the desktop. I just learned to deal with it and saved often. This may seem drastic but i'd try reloading your operating system and installing the game and running then seeing if fixes things. You can at least isolate the problem from other programs, etc. causing issues.

If you do end up doing that and it crashes again at least you can start focusing on hardware, driver related problems on your laptop.

But before you go that route, do your basics.... update all of your drivers, run a hard drive diagnostics and check for errors, make sure your windows and related components are patched up to date, try disabling any unnecessary software/services/antivirus/firewall etc and try running the game.
