Help - Wireless PCMCIA 802.11g

Hi there,

I recently purchased a wireless Router and PCMCIA card for my notebook and it works beautifully!

I tried to install the card into my roomates notebook, but it will not slide into either of his PCMCIA slots on his notebook. Are there different types of PCMCIA slots (sizes, pin layouts), and could this be the reason for it not fitting?

I installed it back into my notebook, and do not need to use very much force for it to slide in, but on his notebook, it does not want to slide in all the way.

Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated 🙂

Is it a cardbus card? If so, his slots may not be cardbus compatible. Cardbus cards are keyed slightly differently so that they will not fit into a 16bit ONLY slot. Try putting a 16 bit card in there. If that doesn't go in easy either, then you have a problem with the slot.

Thanks, that might explain it. He has a 3com PCMCIA modem + nic card that works perfectly in either slot, and it works perfectly in my laptop.

I will try to find out what the issue is.

Thanks, will keep posting 🙂
