Using WinME laptop (DHCP): It was originally connected to Linksys1 (DHCP) and it was switched to Linksys2 (DHCP). It's on the internet, but it's not able to network with other networked computers. I checked WINIPCFG and it shows the old settings. I've removed the adapter, shut down, restarted, and it keeps on getting the old settings from somewhere.

How can I fix this?

yes. A LOT.

would the "hardware profiles" in "system properties" have anything to do with it? I have "original", "docked" and "undocked". would any of the network settings be saved there?

that very well could be. you don't happen to have a second NIC in your docking station do you? do you even have a docking station? if not , i would get rid of some of those profiles. my father has an nt4 laptop with docking station and the NIC settings get a little crazy depending on which he chooses at boot-up

yeah, there's a second NIC in the docking station. i removed the laptop from the docking station, but it still seems get it from somewhere. i'll look a little more at that setup.

EDIT: how can i choose which profile boots up?
