The hard drive in my Dell 600m just failed recently, and I replaced it with a new 60G Seagate hard drive, and installed Fedora core 4 and Windows XP on the laptop.

A couple of days ago, I was trying to access the NTFS partition of Windows XP from FC4. I installed the NTFS package on FC4, and mounted the NTFS partition. This proves to be the beginning f my nightmare.

After the access from FC4, my windows XP can?t start properly, it gives me blue screen error all the time, and fortunately, after many tries, I found the problem seems serious in the morning, but during night , it is fine. I eventually logged into XP, and performed disk and data integrity check using the system tools. It seems solve the problem, but more trouble are lying ahead.

I decided to reinstall Windows XP to avoid any potential problem, although it is working now. But after the Windows XP installation disk echo ?check system hardware configuration??, the hard drive light kept on all the time, and black screen, nothing more. This kept for ever. It seems the hard drive can?t be found properly. I guess this may not be the problem of the hard drive, since it is new.

Can any one give me some kind hints? Thanks a lot!

I'd really be interested in what could cause something like this as well.

Did you just read from the drive, or write to it?

Hi Actually the Windows XP still does not work and has the blue screen problem.

My question is, even if the file system got messed up, why Windows XP installtion disk can't find the basic hardware hard drive?

Thanks!
