I go to update windows and it won't even try to scan my HDD for updates, it goes from 0-100% in less than a second and says there are none available. I switched the cd key several times and It still doesnt help. Whats wrong?

Now why would you think you would need to switch keys? And why did you have a bunch of keys available ;)

I was just curious, it seemed a strange solution to try. The known pirate keys result in a pretty clearly worded dialog saying that updates aren't availabe, not the hanging at 100% he's seeing.

FirestormX, try nuking your cache AND select the 'all offline content' so you'll redownload the WU objects. See if that helps.

I just wrestled with the same problem. It was caused by a hard drive that was defective even though it appeared to be working just fine. I spent HOURS working on this problem because the hdd had no other sign of being bad. Eventually I was trying to install another utility and it wouldn't install due to a 'disk error' -- which led me to running MaxBlaster and finding the bad disk.

Bacillus is absolutely right. You must have the date AND YEAR set correctly. F*ing Microsoft...why haven't they fixed this yet?
