It won't let me login after install a security fix. Whenever I try and log in it keeps saying "The Domain server (Dennis1) is not available" and keeps asking for a login/password. Nothing works, I've also tried in safe mode..

Anyone know? This is kind of urgent.. 🙁

If you try safe mode w/o networking what happens?

Same thing.. anyone know?

If you believe it is the security fix that caused this, you can go into the recovery console and uninstall the security fix, after which (if the fix caused this) the problem should be resolved.

Is this a 2000 Server domain server? A 2000 Pro box? We need much more information. What security fix? When was this done? How many security fixes did you install? Did you do anything else prior to this? If not a DC, is the machine constantly on the network, or have you been using cached logins, if you're part of a domain? (Oh, and are you part of a domain?)

As you can see, we need much, much more information to effectively help you.

No, it's a not 2000 domain server. It's a server/workstation.. It was just one security fix, done last night. Yes, the machine is constantly one the network, I'm not sure about cached logins, but the login IDs are always there. If that's what you're talking about.

This is what happens.. It goes through the boot sequence fine, but when it goes through the windows login it begins to slow down. "Windows is now starting up.." and "Now looking for network connections.." each take a considerable amount of time. Then when I try to login with the Adminstrator, it just says Domain name server (Dennis1) is not available.

Your NIC/cabling/etc. is hot?
You can ping this machine by name or by IP address? (Look on your DHCP server for this machine's IP address, if name resolution isn't working.)
Your domain controller is working correctly and all other machines are able to talk to it?
Can you connect to this machine remotely, by mapping a drive from another machine or by accessing the registry remotely?
Your DHCP server is giving out the correct information?
