Windows 2000 running on duron650, msi k7tpro2a, 128 kingston, HP CDR, hangs on shut down. Particularly after I hit shut down and after it gets done logging out I am stuck looking at a blank screen with an underscore (_) cursor blinking in the top left corner. The only way I can shut down is if I either unplug or hit the power switch.

This is very annoying. Oh, and this occurs even if I try to restart instead of shut down. Anyone know what I can do to fix this?

Do you have Windows Media Player 7 installed? If yes. Try to uninstall Adaptec's CD Burning plugin. See if it helps.

Charles,

Holy crap you were right on. I knew this started happening around the time I installed my cdr. So what's up with Adaptec interfering with shut down? Adaptec was opening up in the background everytime I booted up, which I didn't think anything of. But no longer and it works just fine now.

Thanks!
