help, win98/xp networking question

i have a simple home network with 3 computers. two are xp and can interact fine. the third is win98. win98 can ping both computers successfully, and they can ping it. the others can see win98 listed in network places, but can't open it. win98 only has itself listed in network places. everything that can be is set to auto on all computers, and the router. what could be wrong?
