I recently tried to install a cd-rw drive in a friend's computer. Because of a lack of space, I replaced the CD-ROM drive with the CD-RW (A verbatim model--rebadged liteon?--from office depot, or something). Anyway, the drive is identified in the BIOS, and the icon for the drive shows up under 'My Computer', but trying to use the drive only results in a dialog box saying, 'D: drive not accessible' (of course there was a cd in the drive at the time).
How do I get windows 98 to recognise this drive? Under the hardware devices tab, the drivers for the drive are 'present or not needed' and troubleshooting section says, 'this device is working properly'. I don't know what I can do to get the drive recognised. The jumpers are set correctly and the drive is getting powered. The computer specs are as follows (this comp is mainly used for word processing and light internet):
AMD K6-2 500 | 512mb SDRAM | 5 gig HD | Matrox PCI video card | Windows 98 SE
That's all I can remember.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
tdawg
