Help: Win2k with no keyboard

😱Hope someone can help...

I'm locked out of Win2k. I was silly and attempted to uninstall my CueCat (it conflicted with my Palm Pilot). The problem is that I did it the wrong way. I removed it from the system registry, amongst other things.

The problem is that my computer will not accept input from the keyboard! (note: the CueCat was connected throught the PS/2 keyboard port along with the keyboard).

Even safe mode doesen't let me type! And if it go to the "last good boot" from the F-8 start-up menu I'm still locked out. The recovery optins on the Win2k CD didn't even cut it.

Any suggestions? (Besides being a lot more careful next time).

Ladi,

I'm using a ps/2 keyboard. I started looking into USB keyboards over lunch... but I'm wondering if switching is going to help? If I went over to a USB keyboard, would it acknoladge new hardware before I was able to log onto Win2k? It's something I might try, but a last ditch effort before reinstalling Win2k. It's just that poor graduate students like me try not to spend money.

The fix? 😱 The 'fix' uninstalled drivers for a few of my devices, but did get me back in. I guess it could be used for other driver issues too that keep the user locked out.

1. Boot using the Win2k CD-ROM and start the Recovery Console

2. Rename the System file in \WINNT\System32\Config to System.bad

3. Copy the System file in \WINNT\Repair over to the directory in step 2

4. Exit the Recovery Console and reboot.

Thanks for looking at this Ladi 😉. It was real frustrating.
