It was booting up nomrally, but when i restarted, it only got to 2 bars on thta b&w progress bar. I don't want to reformat, because i got 2GBs of DIVXs, a project and email files. I tried safemode, but the same thing occured. Last known configuration, same thing.

I tried numerous options from the safe mode menu. I tired last known config, and i got this

mulit(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(0)\WINNT\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
mulit(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(0)\WINNT\system32\hal.dll
mulit(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(0)\WINNT\system32\bootvid.dll
mulit(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(0)\WINNT\system32\config\system

Then it froze.

I can't repair it because it says no hard drive device found.
any help?

try the hard drive in another system(as a second drive)to see if the drive still works. If so, maybe it is just a temporary thing. A few times my win2k system has "lost" the hdd. After a little fiddling around and a few reboots it works properly.

You should be able to install Win2k again but dont choose to format. Choose leave file system intact and all your files will still be there. After you get booted up rename your new profile folder using the old profile name (Make a temp user with admin rights and log in on that account to rename these folders) Also rename your all users and admin profile folders also. Then all you need to do is reinstall of few of your programs/drivers and all is back to normal.
