i've just upgraded my os from win98 to win2k.. before the os upgrade, all my hardwares worked fine with win98... after the upgrade, win2k doesn't seem to detect com2 and my modem.. the modem i'm using is a aopen 56k isa modem.. i've set the jumpers on the modem to use com2(i've used the same jumper setting with win98 and it worked all the time).. what happen was after i installed win2k, in the hardware profile, i found out that win2k install my modem in com1(win2k installed it on the wrong port), so i went head and delete the modem, did a new hardware detection hoping that the windows will detect and install my modem on the right com port.. after windows spent a while doing new hardware detection, it didn't see any modem and i checked under the hardware profile/port, only com1 were there com2 wasn't there as well..
i thought this might be a bios setting issue(although i haven't changed any bios setting before and after i installed win2k), so i try different setting for the serial ports on my bios(i'm using a gigabyte ga-6vx-4x mobo)..
i tried 4 different settings:
setting 1: serial port 1 auto serial port2 auto
setting 2: serial port 1 disable serial port2 auto
setting 3: serial port 1 auto serial port2 disable
setting 4: serial port 1 disable serial port2 disable
after reboot my comp a couple times, i found that win2k still doesn't detect my modem, but it does detect com1 and com3(it only show up whenever serial port 2 is enabled).. com2 is still missing..
i then reboot my computer using a win98 boot disk.. from there, i ran my old dos modem dialer(telemate). telemate was able to initialize the modem and use com2, and i was able to dial out to my isp and made the modem connection...
after all these work, i found that my modem isn't broken or anything like that, but win2k just doesn't detect my modem.. can someone give me some advise as to how to fix this problem? thx.. i post this msg from work and i'll check this forum whenever i have time..
