I don't know much about the hardware so please bear with me. A friend of mine bought a PC a while ago and when she was about to upgrade the OS to Win2k, she realized the motherboard doesn't support Win2k (this was stated in the HP site).

Now I am going to buy a PC and would like to have Win2K installed, how do I find out whether the motherboard supports the OS)

Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks! Then how about any AMD that's between 750MHz and 900MHz? Say, Duron 800MHz. Will win2k be ok with these CPU speeds?

Yes.. dont let ppl tell you you need a 900 or better. I've run w2k just fine on a 700 duron. Ram is more important... just make sure you have at least 256meg although it will run with 128meg fine for light tasks.

I only have a 525 and Win 2000 runs just dandy on my machine, I believe the minimum system is a 133 Mhz

I would have your friend show you the exact webpage that she saw this. I suspect it actually said that HP would not provide support for Windows 2000 on that system (Totally different from "the motherboard doesn't support Win2k".) In short HP does not want to be hassled with the tech support upgrade questions, as well as the numerous questions they would get that were actually related to the user learning Windows 2000. I had this happen with my HP Pavilion N5150 Laptop....on the HP website it said HP would not provide support for Windows 2000 on that system, but after digging around the website for a while I found the entire Windows 2000 driver package for that same system that they would not provide Windows 2000 Tech Support for. I installed Windows 2000 and it ran perfectly, even dual booting with ME(UGH!)
