Greetings All I have WINXP with SP1 and Fully patched. AS of Late I have noted when I select the ADD or Remove Program ICON in the control panel I get the error "Value Creation failed " line 410." I have tried copying over a copy of appwiz.cpl from a good XP system ...same ver. etc... to no avail. I have attempted to have appwiz.cpl open via control.exe and rundll32.exe I get the same errors. I have restored to multiple prior restore points to no avail. I ran SP1 patch again to no avail. I have delved into the registry to no avail. Scan disk reveals nothing. I rather not re-install. Can anyone out there offer some advise???? Please contact me at my email addresses with any and all advise.

Something got corrupted along the way just like when I lost the all-important Windows XP system file 'NTLDR' for some reason. I had to log in as administrator and copy the file from the 'i386' directory and place it on my C: drive. You may have to reformat and do a clean install. It sucks but we all have done it umpteen times and it's also good practice to.:frown:

Man, I gotta read this forum more often. My firend's comp. wouldn't boot into windows saying that file (NTLDR) was corrupt/missing. I fdisk'd, and re-installed....

So If I had booted to DOS on a floppy I could have just copied it from the i386 directory to the C: directory and it would have booted OK after that?
