Hello:
I'm trying to help a friend of mine who has a small office network.
He has setup 7 Win XP Pro machines that are all hooked into a LinkSYS router that has a Verizon DSL connection.
The DSL is ADSL, 1.5Mbit down, and 200K up or so
File sharing works fine, and internet sharing works fine.
The problem: If one of the users uploads a file via ftp the entire network chokes to the point where nobody can surf the web. It's like being on a 9600 baud modem all over again
I had him do a quick tracert from each machine, and the respnse times are in the 3000 range during an upload, plus it looks like all machines have the SAME local IP address.
He said he used the WinXP wizard to set this up. How is this possible that they have the same IP ? and would this cause the problem ? My first guess would be yes, and to assign unique local IP addresses.
I'm going to try and swing by his office tomorrow, but not knowing much about networks, was hoping to get some ideas from the gurus out there ...
thanks!
