I just installed a second hard drive in my system. My primary hard drive is partitioned (C: & D). I also have a CD ROM and a burner (E: & F). My bios has recognized the new drive and everything seems OK there. When I booted up I assumed that the CD ROM and burner would be bumped back a letter and the new drive would show up ... that didn't happen. The new hard drive is not displayed in My Computer or Explorer. Does anyone know how to fix this problem. Thanks.

when you get the drive working, what's going to happen is your C will stay the same, the first partition on your 2nd hard drive will be D, and your old D will be E, then the CD roms will be bumped back. it sounds to me like you just threw in the new hard drive and booted up. an fdisk and format is in order for your new drive.

Actually Joe, the slave hard disk I installed is already formatted... I took it from another system and it has some data on it that I would like to keep. Will I indeed have to reformat and fdisk it... I don't want to do that if I can avoid it but if there is no other choice, I will bite the bullet. Thanks.

Joe, another thing. Could it be that the older hard drive doesn't like the high speed cable I am using for the newer HD?
