|Bump|additional info about the problem:

the hard drive is partitioned: C, D and E.
and only 1 bay for either CD-Rom or Floppy disk.

how do I startup the computer to run with my win98 CD?

I really messed it by formatting the C drive! Help!

I know nothing about Laptops but I'm sure there is a bios. Go into the bios and set your cdrom as your first boot device in the boot order catagory.

During boot there should be an "enter setup" message instructing you to hit a function key. Then carefully go through the options like SPB says and make sure the CD drive is on the top of the list. Save and reboot 🙂

the problem is I can't find the cd-rom from the bios (it's F1 button when booting)

I dl the newest bios.. but not sure if I can install it from floppy without any OS but DOS?

when I use the startup disk, the disk even can run the no 1 option : with CD-Rom.. because when it try to install a genereic driver, it can't find the CD-ROM

When you say you're desperate. Desperate as in, this sucks, I want it fixed! desperate? Or... The, I need it fixed by the morning or the world will end! desperate.

Maybe you should type a lil slower. Your grammer is hard to understand. No offense.

If this is windows 98 and the cd is bootable you don't need the universal boot disk/startup disk. Just boot to the cd and tos the flopy. If its a non bootable win98 cd then you need a startup disk, make on off you desktop pc and use it on the laptop and start with cdrom support. Again if the 98 cd is bootable and not booting, make your cdrom the first boot device.

sorry kelvrick.. but I am bad in english. Especially this late and while I can't find the solution. I've looked for it for hours...
thanks for your help anyway.

I was looking in the bios.. but I can't see the cd-rom being in the system.. the cd-rom is sharing the same bay as the floppy.

There should be an selection that says something besides harddrive, or HD. Maybe um... input device? or something like that? Good luck man. This for sure is my last post.

Alright, i see some light..

the bios is having 1: FDD, 2 HDD, and 3 empty and 4 empty.

I am able to choose the cdrom but it move to slot 3. I have to find a way it move to 1

thanks for sharing the idea about the bios.. i'll try the cdrom to 1 and with a bootable win98.. i should be alright..

AHH!!! Why am I still here?!

Good luck man. Glad I could be of service. Post up the results. If good, then good. If bad, then more advice for you!
