help! Will my motherboard using 440BX chipset support 256MB SDRAM?

My question is whether the support for RAM depends on the manufacturer of the motherboard or only on the chipset.
I don't know the manufacturer of my motherboard, and the manual says "DIMM1, DIMM2, DIMM3 each supports 8MB, 16MB, 32MB, 64MB or 128MB SDRAM, with the total up to 384MB". But according to the specs of 440BX chipset, it does support up to 1GB memory. Is it possible that my motherboard actually supports 256MB SDRAM, but the manual doesn't mention it because 256MB was not available at that time? Thanks.

It's possible.

What board do you have?

Here's the thing to consider, though - some 256mb DIMMS won't work because of the chips they use. For example, if they use 32x4 chips, your BX board will not read the entire 256mb.

I would check with your motherboard manufacturer to make sure they implemented logic to read the entire 256mb DIMM.
