HELP!! Why Can't I access certain webpages?

Hi folks,

Here's the situation:
-I'm running 4 computers that are connected to one router that is connected to internet via dsl.
-3 of these computers can access everything thats accessible
-the ONE that can't access common pages is ME.

I cannot access for example, bananarepublic.com, buy.com, staples.com, etc.. pages that aren't even restricted. It is NOT due to spelling errors or anything, as this is what happens: I try to access for example, gap.com it'll start to open the page, but at a certain point, abut 1/8 of the way, it just stops altogether and doesn't do anything.. such is the case with many other webpages. On the other computers, all pages can be accessed normally. I've already tried using different internet programs like netscape, and have also tried reinstalling my network card and drivers, and even switching cables with the others, but same situation. NO matter what I do, I still can't access the webpages that the other guys can.

the ONLY difference between the other computers (a major difference, if significant) is that I am the only one with the Barricade port monitor (router applications). What's going on here???

No, they aren't blocking any IP's.. my other computers that are hooked up to this same router works fine, so I don't think IP restrictions were really a factor.. but please correct me if I'm wrong.

The only place your ip could be blocked is on the router itself, and in that case NO web sites would work.

Try removing the SMC monitoring stuff and see if that makes a difference.

But if I were to remove the SMC software from my computer, wouldn't I be unable to connect at all? And wouldn't the same go for the other 3 computers? I was just thinking so because the software contains all connection configurations and networking options.. ??

Never heard about ?But if I were to remove the SMC software from my computer, wouldn't I be unable to connect at all? ?

Are you by any chance referring to the PPPOE software that most DSL providers use?

No, I was referring to the cd that came with my router.. it has a lot of configuration and setup options.. i thought i would be required to keep those settings because it contains the ip info, etc.

I have this same problem when I set my proxy software, WinProxy, to the NAT setting from the transparent proxy mode. Some sites, for example cnn.com, I am unable to access -- they just come up and say 'Website Found' but do not actually load the page. Although, when I go back to the transparent proxy setting they all work fine. Very wierd...

I have few SMC Barricades; I never used or installed their Software. Every thing that I do works OK without any of their software on any of my system.

What I basically do is Log with IE to http://192.168.123.254/ , and do the entire configuration directly to the Barricade.

The problem that you are referring to can also be generated by other difficulties.

It can generated by incorrect setting in IE on the ME computer.

It can also happened due to corrupt files related to the browser. I had the same problem on two of my computer, and it was resolved after installing IE 5.5 SP2.

Jack,

So do you recommend I try uninstalling my barricade software?

and NightHawk,

did you ever resolve your problem? If so, how?

Well, here it goes...

I got impatient, Jack, and I just decided to try uninstalling the barricade software.. you were right on one thing.. connection is still intact .. but MY PROBLEM STILL HASN'T BEEN RESOLVED!! SOMEONE PLEEEEEASE HELP!!!

Thanks to you all who have already given some input 😉
