Help! Why are the pop-up windows coming out as BLANK?

One of my friend's PC has been giving a problem for the last few days. Whenever a pop-up window appears, it is just blank now. Java and Java Script are enabled. Can anybody please help? By the way, the problem happens in both IE and Netscape. I checked for any "hosts" file. But, no problems there. He uses Windows 2000, IE 6.0 and Netscape 7.0.

More info about the problem:

These pop-ups are of "needed" type. For example, when he goes to music-related web site, if he wants to preview a music clip, he click on the music clip link, it pops up a small window with the music player (Windows Media, Real or Flash player) and plays the music. It used to work before. Now, the pop-up window is completely blank.

Also, I noticed one weird thing on his PC. When I go to "Add/Remove Programs" in the control panel, IE does not show up as an installed program. Now that I think about it, Netscape also does not show up there. I remember that you could "repair" the Internet Explorer by going thru "Add/Remove Programs". But, it does not show up there.

By the way, he did upgrade from IE 5.0 to IE 6.0. But that was long before this problem surfaced.

Thanks for the reply. But, he does NOT want to block pop-ups. But, there are some legitimate pop-ups that he want to view. For example, when he goes to music-related web site, if he wants to preview a music clip, he click on the music clip link, it pops up a small window with the music player (Windows Media, Real or Flash player) and plays the music. It used to work before. Now, the pop-up is completely blank.

has he used any sort of anti-spyware stuff lately ??

After using adaware, I use to get some strange stuff happening along these lines.

I got a tip from another board. It worked. Basically, one of the DLL files needed to be re-registered. Here is the command to do this:

"regsvr32 urlmon.dll" (without the quotes)

Everything works fine now.
