Ripped a dvd from my brother's collection, didn't want to burn it to disc so I installed Daemon Tools, it mounted the file but doesn't play it. Then I read VLC plays ISO, so I tried that and still it doesn't work.

I use CDburnxp to create the ISO image, the ISO movie is the 007 serie movie "casino royale".

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

VLC plays any and all ISOs. It could be an issue with how you ripped that dvd. I use DVD Shrink for all my rips and have never had an issue playing any ISO in VLC. Try ripping again.

Was there any "protection" on the DVD? Has it been removed? This could possibly cause issues, VLC should be able to play the movie back without mounting the ISO, I do it all the time.

Not sure if there is protection for this particular movie. Is there a way to check?

ISO is ISO right? Does it matter what software we use to rip?

The file is about 7.5gb, so the integrity of the file, as far as I can tell, is fine.

Do you think winrar decompressing might help?

I'd say try doing another rip with dvd shrink. It usually is excellent at removing the protection. If it can't remove it, I will use AnyDVD, which works every time. I don't think decompressing would do anything. And 7.5gb seems a little high for one dvd.

I think this was a Sony release so I would say more than likely it was protected, any way for you to re-rip? Otherwise you could dl the demo of anydvd and mount the iso and try and watch with vlc.
