I just got an HP SFF PC P3 866mhz with 256mb of ram and 30gb hard drive. I was just wondering which OS would run better, mainly the computer will be used for internet surfing and word processing. Any suggestions appreciated, thanks!

def win 2k.

Last year i built a system for my sister (xp 2200, 512mb pc 2100) that was running xp. Just before i left for college this year i formatted and installed 2k. The computer ran so much better under the 2k install, plus it allowed me to lock down my sisters user privliges much more than i was able to under xp.

Put XP Pro on the system and shut off the eye candy, you'll get a longer support period from microsoft better hardware / software compatibility and pretty much the same performance if you've installed all the latest service packs.

OT - belongs in OS section!

I voted for W2k (if only because you don't have to kiss Billy G's butt anytime you want to make a change) but I would actually say Win98SE as it works great for me - fully updated and tweaked to the nth... However, there is a boatload of hinky W2k out there and even legit can be had for less than an XP home license from places like http://www.9software.com, etc.
