The best sounding system for music will be a home theater receiver with good bookshelf or floorstanding speakers, no micro, cube or desktop system will compare to a decent set of home audio speakers. Ditto on the sub, a good home theater sub will sound much better than a shoe box size sub. Some of the speaker sets marketed specifically for use with a computer do sound good, don't get me wrong, but if you're looking for the best sounding gear, you're really limited by the form factor of a computer specific sound system.

The AE Aego M 2.1 are easily the best PC speakers i've ever heard and great value when you consider the asking price. They are very popular here and for good reason!

Might be hard to get hold of outside of Europe though and you'd pay a premium too.

+1

You can actually get really nice small speakers, but not for the price these computer sets go for.

If you really want small plug&play, I'll suggest the Audioengine A5.

I agree with what both kornphlake said and s44.

But if you are looking for good quality, low cost powered speakers keep an eye on Logitech's dented box sale (bought a couple of things there, all been perfect-even the boxes). Link:

PS-nothing great today for speakers (I'd love to snap another Squeezebox Duet), but changes often

Just buy whatever speakers you can afford, for a $50 2.1 channel system there isn't really a best buy, at that price you're barely scratching the surface of "for sale." Unfortunately at that price all you're going to get is boomy, uncontrolled bass and distortion. Boomy, uncontrolled bass and distortion may sound awesome to you though, a lot of teenage kids seem to think it sounds great.

lol teenage...hahahaa, explain music if you know it...........

expensive doesn't mean better always :p

you need to find what best you can get out of that 50$.

i'll rather choose Altec Lansing VS2621 Speaker for 50$ instead of asking suggestions from retards.

Music is not loud bass that thumps in your chest, nor is it blistering treble that makes dogs howl. Music can't be described in terms used to describe speakers because music doesn't come from speakers, it comes from an instrument. A flute makes sound as a musician blows air over the opening on the mouthpiece while opening and closing holes along the body of the instrument, a speaker makes sound by moving a cone compressing the air in front of it, the two can not sound the same because the sound of either is produced very differently. There are some speakers that can produce a fairly accurate imitation of music, but they don't necessarily have awesome bass, they don't fit in a shoe box and they cost more than $50.

expensive doesn't mean better always :p

Agreed, brand names cost a lot, most of the cost pays for marketing not development when discussing consumer electronics.

you need to find what best you can get out of that 50$.

Like I said, there aren't a whole lot of options for less than $50, the best option at $50 is going to be mediocre at best unless you're able to get a really good deal on some used equipment. You're well below the point of diminishing returns, a $60 speaker will sound noticeably better, a $70 speaker will again sound better, until you get into the $250 range you'll hear an improvement for every dollar you spend. At the upper end there are some speakers that definitely sound better than others although the cost is the same, at the low end there isn't much difference. If you've only got $50, buy whatever you want, any set of speakers at this price uses cheap drivers, plastic enclosures and underpowered amps that you'll constantly drive to distortion. You can't incorporate the features that make a speaker sound excellent for the price of a $50 set of speakers, it just can't be done.

i'll rather choose Altec Lansing VS2621 Speaker for 50$ instead of asking suggestions from retards.

Fine choose the speakers you want, that's what I suggested, for $50 there isn't a whole lot of difference from one model to the next, they're all bottom of the barrel. I'm not sure who you're calling a retard, maybe you don't understand the meaning of the word?
