I need help with my new MSI K7T Pro 2-A. One problem i`m having is that Win ME will not find my EXT USR 56k modem, but Win 2000 will.
Another problem is Win 2000 will not find my Teac 40x cd-rom, but Win ME will. This board also seem to have very bad hard drive performance compared to my last board(Asus P3V4X). Did I get a bad board or is there something I`m overlooking.

My System:
MSI K7T Pro 2-A
T-bird 800
Asus V6600D GForce
IBM Deskstar 75GXP 30GB
EXT USR 56k Modem
Teac 40x CD-Rom
SB Live X-Gamer
D-Link NIC
300W Power Supply
128MB PC-150 Memory

What drivers have you installed? WHat you have listed is very ODD behavior. Have you tried to manually detect the hardware, i.e. not using the WinBlows Autodetect features?

Give us some more info...

Hi OD3

I`m using the 1.90 bios, the Via drivers from the CD plus the Bus Master PCI IDE Utility(in Win 2000 only). All other drivers where instaled by the OS. How do you manually detect the hardware?

Get the W2K ide drives from the FAQ at my website (see my signature). Also get the LATEST VIA 4n1 drivers from www.viahardware.com.

As for manually detecting hardware, go into the control panel, select Add/Remove Hardware and manually select your modem if W2K still cannot find it on its own.

I got the new VIA driver and the W2K ide drives. Win ME found the modem(afer locking up 2 time) but it still dose not work. Win 2000 found the CD-Rom but it dose not work. In the Device Manager in Win 2000 the hard drive and the CD-Rom are listed as SCSI but they are IDE drives.

Which OS did you install first? Where is each OS located, i.e. their paths...C:\winme...what?
What sort of partition system do you have setup?

Are you having ANY other conflicts or troubles?

I have 3 partition Win ME is on C:\ and Win 2000 is on D:\. I installed Win ME first. As for other problem both OS seem less unstable(lockup and freeze alot)compared to my other PC.

I am stumped on that one. You seem to have done everything right.

Maybe someone else will chime in with their $0.02 worth of knowledge...

Good Luck!

OD3, Thanks for the help.

Anyone else have any ideas or should I RMA this board and try my luck with a new one?

Hey OD3,
I just visited your site from your sig. ( nice BTW )

"CPU L2 Cache ECC Checking"
"If enabled, the system will detect and correct single-bit data errors stored in the L2 cache, thus increasing system stability, especially in overclocked systems. Recommended setting is ENABLED for maximum performance and stability."

You need to rethink that one. ECC checking does do exactly as you say,(will detect and correct single-bit data errors stored in the L2 cache) but it hampers performance by wasting cycles. It
will also cause instabilty if errors are found. This BIOS feature should be turned off unless you are business that has use of it in business applications. ( Large money transaction etc. )

I did it! My computer is working now. For some reason my CD-Rom did not like being on the Secondary IDE Connector. I connected the CD-Rom on the Primary IDE Connector and the hard drive on the Secondary IDE Connector and everything is working just fine.

I am not sure if this is your problem, but my harddrives and cd would not boot under win 98 or win2000 using the onboard controller. I happened to have a Promise Tech IDE card and tried booting with this card. So, I figured my problem was a defective onboard IDE controller. I imediaterly exchanged the board for another one and it worked great.
