In my house I have been asked to take care of the grout in and around the kitchen area. However the current method proposed to me is to use vinegar diluted in water and a scrub brush. I don't agree with this long and tedious method.

I have been exploring other possibilities such as:

1) Use Stanley Steamer
2) Rent a portable pressure steam machine
3) Use alternative cleaning method I am unaware of

All suggestions are welcomed! Please help me in this venture!

steamer might work... bleach cleaner... if the grout is white they make something you can roll on that works pretty well

The best cleaner with the least amount of effort - women:

directions:
You have to snag one in the wild. Once you locate one, whisper sweet nothings in her ear, buy her presents, and once she snags, you're set!

:p

Tilex is the best.
Just spray it on, let it sit a few minutes and then wipe/rinse.
If that does'nt do it, get some SoftScrub w/Bleach and a hard bristled toothbrush or "BLUE" ScotchBrite pad and go at it. SoftScrub is not abrasive enough to hurt tile unless the tile has a "GLOSSY" finish.

I hate tiled Kitchens :)
That's why I got my counters redone with Granite.

Yep, but if the grout is not white, Tilex will bleach it and it will look terrible.

Its an off white kinda beige. However, has anyone used a professional company to do this and I wonder if the costs isn't THAT far off it may be a better idea for me just to pay to have it done.

I like SoftScrub w/bleach. We have white tile in our kitchen with a very light grout and it works great on the grout and doesn't scratch the tile. Also, I don't like the spray on chemicals because you end up breathing in the toxic fumes...that can't be good for you.

For grout I think you need something with 'oxygen action' plastered on the lable. It helps break the ions bonding the dirt to the grout.

Perhaps a powder type laundry detergent like SURF with a bleaching agent. Make a paste and let it sit for at least 5 minutes. Then rinse and repeat if needed.

So water should work then?

You cannot bleach colored grout Pilgrim. It's color is all the way through. It's like saying ......If you pour bleach on a black obsidion rock it will discolor or turn white ;)

I would'nt recommend something that did'nt work. I've gone through cleaning tons of grout and am fairly experienced. (flexes bicep)......Mr Clean Mr Clean **LOL**

I clean mine with a spray bottle with bleach diluted with water. Just spray some on every day and it will go away in a few days.
