I have a Canon i960, which does a pretty good job. My experience with the Canon i960 is that it produces the best pictures using Canon Photo Paper Pro (kinda expensive). HP Photosmart 7960 is also does a good job producing high quality pictures, especially in black&white (the best I've seen this year). Go to a store and test which one is best for you. I also like the Canon i950.

I would also highly recommend the Canon i960. It produces stunning output, has very small ink dots (2 picoliters), and the most economical ink system.

Two other benefits of the printer is that it is fast and very quiet.

Epson also produces some printers with decent output, but they are loud, slow, and not as economical.

Although HP makes good printers, I think the Canon and the Epson has them beat when it comes to creating good life-like pictures.

An expensive one! :) :)

I bought the Epson Stylus refurbished 825 yesterday. I think that's a decent printer, and they're having a sales on it.

It is a refurbished printer though, and it happened that MicroCenter had that for 50 dollars. So you can print out or bring a microcenter flyer and pricematch it with Staples, and get it lower price. :)

I really want a Hiti. They seem to have the most reasonable TCO ($130 for the cheapest printer and like 38 cents/print if you buy the cartridges in bulk) and dye-sub is superior to inkjet IMO.

The i450 and i470 (same print heads as the i450 with a memory card reader) both are great printers.. In fact, I'd call the i450 a hidden gem - it can be had for $50 and the print outs looks stunning.. My gf has one and I now regret getting an epson (stupid clogging printheads!).

i'm in the market for a new printer also.
i made a few photo xmas cards this year on my 4 year old epson and am very disappointed.
it's a shame the i470 is OOS in my area because it fell within budget.
...guess i'll have to wait for another deal.

I have an i850 and I am very pleased with it's performance. I would almost bet that pictures printed with it and placed in a frame would be very hard to tell from "store bought" pictures.
On a related note, where can I get some really good quality inks for my i850 or is it best to stay with canon's?

a i560 for $89 at or Sams Costco is a good deal. Come with a USB cable.

You can get generic cartridges for as low as $1.69 as several places.

For your i960 owners, have you used generic ink? Does it work as well? I just bought an i960 and am curious.

Not anymore. Newer inkjets are far better than cheapo dye-subs. I have a Sony 4x6 dye-sub at home and the details it renders don't come close to the Epson 2200 we have at work. It's nice for printing a quick snapshot once in a while. For the most part, I send out for prints since I find printing to be time consuming.
