Help - what is this (something to test alcohol percentage in drinks)?

Someone overseas (I have friends around the world) is asking me to purchase and send them (with my special mark-up) something that can measure the alcohol percentage in drinks and bottles of liquor. But he specifically mentioned it being able to not just test the ethanol level, but also confirm there is no methanol in it. I think the idea is they are making home-made liquor and want to know what percent alcohol it is, but also that there is no methanol in it that will kill them.

Anyone know what such an instrument would be?

Hydrometer will measure alcohol content. Methanol content should be safe unless they're doing something stupid. Eg, adding methanol to cut cost.

You need a alcohol hydrometer to test for %.

They might be Russian. We need to know that before we can say "should be safe"!
