I need your help on figuring out what external hard drive i should get for my toshiba satellite 1400-s151 (more info on toshiba.com/support for this laptop) laptop. what i am looking for is an external hard drive (don't matter if its portable or desktop) which has at least 80 Gb, usb 1.1 feature, don't want a fireware because my laptop doesn't support it or usb 2.0 (althought i might get a usb 2.0 card to use usb 2.0), and small enought that it will fit in a normal brief case (don't want that is same size as a a dvd player or xbox 🙂). therefore dear members, please let me know which one are the best in your opinion in details if thats possible, and your experience with it.
thank you very much!!!

How small do you want it?

A 3.5" desktop hard drive with an enclosure like this would be very quiet, particularly if you put a samsung or a seagate (5 year warranties w00t!) in it:

Seriously get a pcmcia usb2 card as the performance increase will be substantial. Usb 1.1 maxes out at about 1MB/sec vs usb2 with 60MB/sec Transferring big siles on usb1.1 is horrendous.

If you really want small get a 2.5" laptop hard drive and a small aluminium enclosure for it. Will be small and wont need an external power source as you can get all your juice from the usb (unlike a desktop drive which require an external power source). Downsides are that they are more expensive per gb and slower (although you're already used to a laptop hard drive and newer models are faster). Also as it takes power from the usb on the move it will drain your battery faster, but hey you can access it on the move 🙂

An example of a 2.5" enclosure:

I think the Western Digital Passport is a pretty slick drive and I wouldn't mind getting me one of those. But of course I'm sure you could build the drive (enclosure + HDD) for cheaper more than likely.

can some one tell me please is this an internal hd IDe (that u put in an externla enclosure to hook it up to a laptop) because i am not sure:

Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 ST380011A 80GB 7200 RPM 2M Cache IDE Ultra ATA100 Hard Drive - OEM (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822148015)

Also, can you tell me will it support usb 2.0 or usb 1.1 or that is up to what enclosure u get.
