I've been working/fixing windoze PCs since Win3.1 and I've hit yet another new one...

My coworker is running WinXP with IE. When opens IE and tries to print the page, it gives him the option to choose which printer. If he tries to scroll over to a different printer, everything goes blank!

The usb keyboard, usb mouse, and monitor all kill at once. He doesn't even get a BSOD. But the powersupply is still running.

I've done a virus scan, spybot scan, and even looked through the processes with HiJackThis... Nothing suspicious.

Everything looks to be pointed @ IE though. If I open IE and then open HijackThis to check out the processes running, I get it to crash when I select Explorer.exe and scroll down. Also if IE is open and he just starts doing other things, it will eventually crash.

Problem is that he has to use IE at work.

Anybody else seen something similar to this?

repair the installation

install the xp cd, choose install windows, let it search for previous versions of windows and choose repair, it will install all the system files again

Thanks for the feedback, but I don't think that would work on his pc. We recently did a 2000 to XP upgrade on the PCs and our network guys routinely update Windoze with the latest patches. From my experience, the "Repair" option only works if you haven't made any changes to your system files. The upgrade and patches have changed those files.
