help w/ wireless connection: DD-WRT v24/WRT54G

OK, so lately my wireless connection is ticking me off, so much that I really feel like throwing the POS around some, but anyway...

I have a WMP54G wireless card in my computer. It has been slowly dropping the connection to the router everytime i surf or download images/vids etc. I thought maybe something was wrong with the card, so I buy a new one. Also, before i bought the new card, I was running DD-WRT V23 so I upgraded to V24 RC 6.1 (the latest i think) and my Westell 6100 modem firmware was also old, so I updated that. Now, my connection is not dropping anymore, but surfing the internet is imbearable: it takes forever (1 min, 2 mins) to load simple pages like Anandtech, and streaming vids from say youtube do not work at all. The computer that is hard wired to the router seems to running OK, though i just did a speed test on it and the actual speed is half of that advertised (bellsouth 3.0 FA) so I will def monitor that.

The distance between the computer and router is about 50 feet maybe? on the same floor (basement level). There is a microwave in between but i always unplug it when not in use. I have my connection set up in bridged mode with the router handling everything. I'm pretty sure I have set up everything correctly; My connection was rock solid before this happened and I can't trace it back to any event or software/hardware change...I was also doing a traceroute one day and after going through the router, then to 65.14.248.23, then to 65.14.249.61, on the fourth line i get a request timed out, so i dont know what that is...

SO basically any help/suggestions before i absolutely annihilate my router and wireless card...:|

Maybe you have another source of interference. Try changing the channel on the wireless router. Also, what happens when you plug a computer into one of the ethernet ports on the back of the wireless router?

the computer that is hard wired to the router works fine...as for interference, maybe a neighbors N router? i hear they cause havoc on B/G wireless. I've tried channels 1, 6, and now 11...

normally, packets received should be higher than packets sent. Check your wireless settings, but I think that you have interference problem.
