Help w/window size in XP pro

Whenever I open a window it is full screen, and if I click on the minimize button on the top right, it does not change. The screen changes to a minimize view, but still full screen. Is there a setting I am overlooking?

if I understand you correctly, just resize the window when you have it in restore mode & close the window while pressing crtl!
