I am having an issue with Nero 6 and burning DVD+R discs at 4x. I've heard some issues with the NForce chipset and IDE problems and was wondering if this might be the problem. When I burn at 4x, the computer is reduced to a crawl. HDD activity is constant. I have two systems that do this. Both use the ASUS A7N8X Deluxe and Athlon Xp 2500+ processors. One has a Promise IDE controller, but only a secondary storage HDD is on it.

Is this a problem with Nero or is there an issue with the chipset/drivers? IDE dirvers on both systems are current from Nvidia.

I tried searching, but my brain may be unable to produce the correct keyword(s).

When you install the nVidia 3.13 drivers, are you opting for their SW IDE driver or the standard Microsoft one, or have you tried both?

Hey, MechB!:)

Is there still something wrong with the s/w drivers?:disgust: Or did the corruption matter finally get ironed out?

Y'know, I'm not sure! The S/w drivers work fine on my A7N8X Deluxe with a DVD and CD burner, under Win2000 (the 3.13's have SW drivers for Win2000, whereas the previous versions had them only for XP). And the reports of trouble have diminished a lot. Maybe they fixed it, or maybe it takes certain conditions to bring on the problem. If I were NateSLC then I would re-run the 3.13 installer and try declining the SW drivers this time, see if that helps any. And Nate, make sure the drive is operating in UltraDMA mode after installing the Microsoft drivers (tips on how to tell if needed).

I'm using them in one of my installs, and no trouble here so far.

Did you see this? I didn't read the whole thing; skipped right to the end. Updating Nero fixed HIS slooooowness, though.

Nero 6 here, Nforce2 IDE drivers - any of em - when burning a CD-R - make my system slow to a crawl, but CPU utilization is near 0. Only solution I've found to either this problem, or the "make-a-coaster" problem, is to just change to the Microsoft default IDE drivers.
