Help w/ New system. Pleeeease!!

Brand spankin new system and booted from Win 98 boot disk. Thought this would take me through and partition my hard drive, but system is not detecting my hdd. Is this just because it is not partitionedor formatted?? Checked cables and all that simple stuff but im stranded. Following is system:

Abit KT7- raid
AMD 700 Duron
256 mb micron
30 gb quantum ide ata/66
52x cdrom
standard floppy- generic
geforce 32 mb annihilator video
sblive- left out for starting up
 
Once you boot off your win98 bootdisk type in fdisk and then select 1 create dos partition. Then select create primary dos partition. Once you get the partition created you need to reboot the machine with the bootdisk, then format you c: with format c:/s
