:Q

hi all,
any help will be greatly appreciated!

the details will be a bit fuzzy, because it's not happening to my computer (but my dad's out in calli)

anyway... I suspect he went to some pr0n websites, because he has been frantically calling me about being unable to change the homepage to his internet browser, and because some "icons" are stuck on the desktop, even when he tries to delete them ;)

SO... I told him to do regedit, and change the values manually, but when he tries that, it says something like "regedit has been locked by the administrator."

I told him to do safe mode boot, but it still doesn't work.
is there any way to bypass this lock to get into the registry?

thanks!

Is the computer he uses at work? If it is he's SOL because an Admin could have denied his access to the registry. He could just go into IEs properties and change his homepage back to whatever it was. Just right click on the Internet Explorer icon on the desktop and he'll see where to change it if he hasn't already tried that.

May want to give a look here for info. But as a200 states, if it is a work computer, DO NOT attempt to over ride the admin's blockage of regedit!! Tell him (your dad) to take his lumps and have the admin straighten it out. :)

hey guys,

thanks for the replies.

the funny (sad for him?) part about this is, it's OUR PERSONAL HOME computer. fortunately for him, I won't be coming back to Cali for the next few months, so he can afford to be vague about this.

so, having said that, is there a way to get into the registry?

thanks,
karl
