i'm trying to help my friend set up the linksys 4port router. he's got bell atlantic/verizon dsl.

i hook everything up (modem to router, router to his nic)
and i input the router ip to configure it.

the connection window opens asking if i want to connect to the service. if i click either connect or work offline, it still doesn't get to the config page.

any ideas?

Did you put in the name and password down in the PPPoe section? That is usally all you need for DSL the rest can be set to autodetect.

You've opened Internet Explorer and typed in 192.168.1.1 in the address bar and nothing happens? Sorry, I'm just a little confused by your description. You should be able to just put that in the address bar and type in the default password when that screen pops up, which is "admin" and then it should load the setup screen.

One other thing you should check is to make sure that IE is looking for a local LAN for a connection. That's up in tools-->internet options--->connection tab.

I've had this exact problem before. I just tinkered with it, restarted my computer, hit the router reset button a few times, threw it against the wall, took a bath with it, works great now.
