Help w/ graphic card overclocking

Hello, this is the first time I really tried graphics card overclocking and I might need some help. At first, I oc'ed it to a 600/1200 but I had craploads of artifacts ( if that's what you call those huge green pixels ). And right now I'm at 585/1170 and it runs w/o any artifects. Can I put it back to the higher clock w/o artifacts?

Here's a simple analogy for you:

You put your hand on a hot stove, it burned so you took your hand off the stove. What will happen if you put your hand back on a hot stove?

Artifacts will be there pretty much regardless of the fact that you "took your hand off the stove."

What are artifacts supposed to look like?

They can look like many things......the point is they are not normal and is your cards way of saying "Hey @sshole, clock me down a little or I will die on you".

Artifacting will occur when the core/memory is stretched beyond its limit (thermally or otherwise) and the GPU behaves erratically. The memory will read the wrong color for points (greeen for many cards) causing mis-colored triangles everywhere. How are you testing for artifacts? Most artifacting occurs with heat, meaning you will need to run a program for a few minutes to start picking them up...

Are you using the stock cooler? With my 6600gt, I could only rech about 530, 1060 with getting slight artifacting. I installed my vf700 and I am getting much better OCs now...

That is under load correct? If you are just sittingin the desktop the core will clock to 300 MHz...

Interesting. My 6600GT clocks to 550/1.13. Guess i'm lucky on the mem.

Yea dont clock to the point where you get lockups or artifacts. Thats when the card isn't the doing the math correctly.
