Hi guys,

Quick version of my situation is that I'm going to be upgrading from an XP2100+ to an Athlon64 2800+ (maybe the 3200+ if I can prove to myself it's worth it). All I have to buy is a new mobo and the CPU, but I want to keep things as cheap as possible. The 2100+/Epox 8RDA+ is going to be given to my dad (he's running a celeron 300A OC'ed to 450 these last two years), and I'm going to donate some of my other components to round out his build as well.

For my own comp though, I'm wondering the following:

I see the 2800+ for $130 at newegg...anybody know of cheaper?

Any idea on when AMD will implement next round of price cuts? I can afford to wait a little, but not months.

Now motherboard wise...what mobo is best (if there is such a thing in this case) for using PC for home theatre? I want to connect my new A64 to my dolby digital receiver and have the receiver do the sound decoding, but I don't know enough about home theatre and pc audio to resolve this correctly. I also want to be able to play PC games on the TV and use the speakers connected to the receiver for big sound. :)

As far as I know though...all the audio-out ports I'm familiar with are only mini-plug ports that support those PC 5.1 speaker sets....how do I connect the pc to my receiver (it has every type of connection) so that the sound is high quality and decoded in the receiver? By high quality I just mean no degradation that's obvious to the average person...I'm no audiophile.

Thanks for any and all help....I can't wait to get this thing working. :)

I don't think the prices are going to come down much more on A64's within a month or two. I can't answer the rest of your post in regards to connecting a receiver etc. I have yet to build a HTPC. I'm waiting until I move into my new house :p
