[Help] Video driver problem

I just assembled a new computer. I'm running Vista 64. I'm installing my OS and drivers, and everything works fine. But when I try to install (the latest) video drivers (for Vista 64), all I get is a black screen once Windows loads. I have to boot up in safe mode in order to uninstall the driver. I've tried re-installing the driver multiple times, and I've tried two different versions.

Motherboard: Asus P5Q Pro
CPU: Intel Q6600
Memory: OCZ 2x2gb
Video card: XFX GeForce 8800 GT
PSU: EarthWatts 500W

Did I receive a faulty video card? Or am I doing something wrong?
