Help - Very slow Geforce 4 TI4400!

I just put together a new computer - AMD XP 1900+ and a Geforce 4 Ti4400 running under Windows XP Pro (this is my first XP install). Everything seemed to install just fine, but when I run 3dMark 2001SE I get scores at ~5900, much slower than the 9000+ I was expecting. Particularly strange is the fact that on the Dragolithic benchmark, I get a higher framerate with the high detail benchmark (54 fps) than with the low detail (40 fps). Another one that jumps out is my vertex shader benchmark - I get 3 fps compared to the 92 shown elsewhere on Anand's site.

I've tried three versions of driver to no avail. A google search didn't turn up any useful hints either. Anyone have any ideas what could be wrong?
