I built a machine for a co-worker on Saturday. Everything went pretty smoothly until the installation of the USB Card Reader portion of a Mitsumi FA404M Floppy/USB Card Reader. Windows would not recognize it. Since fooling with that and the drivers for that drive, it seems that all USB ports are now fried!

1) If I insert a USB stick, Windows detects it but says "USB Device Not Recognized".

(This same USB stick worked fine before messing with the Floppy.)

2) A USB mouse is not detected. (No light, no nothing!)
3) Windows does nothing if I attempt to connect an external USB harddrive. (No light, no spin-up, no nothing!)

I have already tried deleting all USB hubs & controllers in the Device Manager, but that did nothing.

Can anyone help me? Is this hardware or a Windows problem?

USB mouse support was disabled, but I enabled it. Otherwise, yes.

Should I set them to 1.1 instead of 2.0?

I got mine set to both 1.1 and 2.0 and also the following below.

USB -shadow
USB mouse support is disabled
USB park mode enabled
FDC floppy enabled .

Settings are more or less the same then.

I guess I need to format and reinstall Windows and see what happens. If that doesn't work, RMA the board :(

God damn it! Formatting Windows and installing SP2 did nothing to resolve the issue.

USB ports are completely fvcked. Thank you EPOX!

This issue seems to be the predominate one with this board. Do us a favor and let Epox know.

Does the problem occur with ALL USB devices? Mice? Memory Sticks?

Personally I think you got a faulty board.

I'm using the following,

USB Keyboard
USB mouse
USB flash drive
USB printer
USB external DVD burner
USB gamepad
USB External hub
USB memory card etc....,even my Olympus camera in USB mode connected directly to PC downloads fine.

what cpu do you have? You are aware that people have stated usb doesnt work with x2 processors on this board right? Other than that, should work fine. Ive never had any usb issues.

This issue does not sound like the x2/usb2.0 issue that's been discussed in the official 9npa+Ultra thread. I'm with Mem that it sounds like a faulty board.

No I can already tell you it didnt. Heh. His rma was pointless. Its a bios issue. If the new board had the newest beta bios installed, then it would be fixed. Theres a beta bios out that fixes it.

I have the latest bios and my usb ports are still not working properly. They will only detect my printer and NOTHING else i plug into them. I know the other devices work cause i can use them on a different PC. So no the latest bios does not fix everything. At least not for me.
