Help Us Break Things For XenForo 1.5.17!

Hey there AnandTech Members!

The Community Staff has been poking the Development Teams for a while now to get us upgraded to XenForo 2.0, which is the new sparkly shiny glittering diamond of forum platforms. As a part of that persistence, we need to up the forum version from the one we're on now to XenForo 1.5.17.

Our developers have already managed to set up a staging test for AnandTech forums on 1.5.17, which you can find right here: https://staging-forums.anandtech.com/

We ask that you take a look, login, poke around, make a post, make a reply, and just generally try to break it in the name of upgrades!

We want to get any major bugs or issues out of the way as early as possible so we can streamline the move towards XF2.0, so your help here is critical. We will be testing and running it through the gauntlet on our end as well, but the more eyes and hands on the staging environment the more likely it is we'll catch something we might not have.

Please be sure to note any issues, bugs, breaks, and anything you find amiss here in the thread. I'm excited to hear from you!

Update: We've gotten some updates from the developers. Please be sure to create a new account on the staging forums, as the staging arena does not reflect the user database we have here on AnandTech. Please keep in mind: If you obtain a registration/password reset email and the URL leads to staging2-forums.anandtech.com, it should be staging-forums.anandtech.com

Are you supposed to use your same login? I'm getting an incorrect password error, temporarily locked myself out. No issues logging in here (well, obviously since I'm replying ). I have 2FA/two-step on, if that might be a reason.

EDIT: disabled 2FA, tried different browser with no extensions, still no go.

No two-step, same issue. Tried both username and email.

Wow! I didn't think folks would respond so quickly. I'm going to let the devs know about the log in issue. In the meantime, feel free to register a throwaway account in order to move forward with testing.

Edit: I forgot to mention, if you've tested on this staging platform before, your log in credentials should still function. However, any and all issues you come across re: log-ins and registrations please let me know so we can document and address it.

Edit Edit: We've been informed that the user database was not migrated over to the staging area by the devs, if you have not already please create another account on the staging area.

Also attempted password reset, got recovery email, but link leads to a 404 error page. Url for that is staging2-forums.anandtech.com (emphasis mine) followed by usual username and string rather than staging-forums.anandtech.com.

Ugh, I had that same problem awhile ago registering on the staging forum. Remove the 2 from that URL, and it should work.

REPEAT: If you obtain a registration/password reset email and the URL leads to staging2-forums.anandtech.com, it should be staging-forums.anandtech.com

As with everyone. Also couldn't login. Password incorrect. Am also using 2 factor.

Registered successfully doing that, although I guess new users have to be manually approved since I have insufficient posting privileges.

Seeing duplicate fields in "Personal Details" settings.

Also got a 403 nginx error attempting to update those details, though it went away and worked after retry.

EDIT: Uploading avatar isn't working, just endless progress bar. Similar issue if I remember correctly when the forums first switched to Xenforo.

@Crono The lack of avatar uploading is a known thing, I believe the developers have disabled it for the time being. Everything else you've reported is new though!
